Abstract

In its construction, Urdu is distinct and different from other languages of the world. Many of the languages took part in its construction. Words of other languages became its part after a due process, but grammarians and lexicographers want to see these adopted words in the light of their source languages. In principle, when the words from other languages assimilated in Urdu after a due process, rules of Urdu grammar should be applied on them, instead of the rules of their source languages. Tasheh Ul Lughaat is such a treatise where errors of such Arabic and Persian words have been highlighted as are now part of Urdu language. In a way the usage of Arabic and Persian origin words has been challenged.

The Current article highlights that once a word becomes part of Urdu lexicon, rules of Urdu language will be applied on it. Urdu has the capacity to absorb words from different languages according to its own temperament. So, linguists and lexicographers should keep this in mind while compiling rules and lexicography. The article also offers a detailed introduction to Tasheh Ul Lughaat and its compiler Rafi Ahmed Aali.
