Abstract

 This study aspires to have unconventional analysis embodying an expressive style to explore the varying degrees of state repression and tyranny, represented in Prem Chand's short -stories. He was the first Urdu short-story writer who propagated political and social reforms inter-alia against state repression and acts of violence in colonial period. His short-stories feature compendious realism as 'Kafan' is a piece of master-art which laid the foundation of modern Urdu short-story. An uncompressed struggle against the infringement of the rights of people of India and state repression have been ironically criticized in his short-stories.
