Abstract

Faiz Ahmad Faiz was a Pakistani intellectual and a revolutionary poet. He is the prominent poet of sub-continent. He was a notable member of the progressive writers Movement. His poetry is in fairly strict diction; his poems maintain a casual and conversational tone. Faiz was an avowed supporter of Sufism. He has closed relations with several Sufi Saints of his time. So, this influence can be seen in his poetry. His poetry has every kind of allusions, like historical and religious. 50% of the religious allusions in Faiz poetry are taken from Quran, Hadith and Islamic History. It shows his love for religion of Islam. He has used these allusions in his poetry in different aspects. He gave to these allusions the newer meanings. This paper highlights the religious allusions in the poetry of Faiz.
