Abstract

The spirit of freedom is the characteristics of all the leading and smaller nations of the world including Pakistan and Turkey. It is more right to say that freedom is not only the characteristics of human beings alone but even all the creatures of the world including tiny birds value this spirit. However; owing to various reasons and untoward circumstances, human beings as individuals or as nations and other creatures suffer the pangs of oppressions, illegal occupations and slavery.

Literature is the best source of expressing human feelings and emotions. Through this medium the writers paint beautiful colors of human feelings and convey it to others. In this pursuit, the writers often write love stories to arrest human attention. They write about pangs of separation and also highlight importance and significance of freedom. This spirit strengthens the human beings to gain maximum courage to wage war against oppression and slavery.  

This article studies the spirit of freedom as painted in Turkish poetry. In modern Turkish literature, its writers and poets like Namik Kamal, Ali Boiler and Muhammad Akif Air have highlighted the spirit of patriotism, freedom and struggle in their works. This article explores these elements of freedom and liberty in the writings of these poets.
