Abstract

Hagiwara is a highly distinctive poet and one of the finest in modern Japanese literature. And he was the first to write perfect free verse from of poetry and used the colloquial language. His poetry presents personal feeling of a deprived human being and a sense of social and moral decline and creating a strange world of morbid sensibility and bizarre fantasy. His poetry shows the typical and specific trends and style of poetic expression emerged in modern Japanese poetry and paved a way of a most modern poetical tradition in Japanese literature.
