Abstract

Sir Syed Ahmad Khan(1817-1898) a great reformer and philosopher of nineteenth century has often been celebrated with both the positive and negative attitude regarding his loyalty to the British Government of India. He faced labels of an Anglophile Muslim Leader and Naturei whenever insisted to learn English language and adopt the new thoughts. It is beyond the pale that total number of Muslim graduates in India was only three (3) when Sir Syed laid down the foundation of Aligarh Madrissa. In that situation he was rightly of the opinion that Muslims should focus on improving their education first. His viewpoint that Muslims should maintain a distance from politics and avoid confrontation with British rulers especially when they were being considered as defiant or disloyal after 1857 was not wrong. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan remained the part of British Government and tried to make all his Aligarh fellows and students realize that they should try to go in civil service and join hands with the administration rather to be offensive. This was the only way to protect the rights of the Muslim nation. This article, in post colonial perspective, presents a deep study and analysis on this subject. Thesis comes out this paper is that Sir Syed's notion to stay in the system was very much considerable as this was the only right way to do something long-lasting for his nation
