Abstract
“Dabbistan-e-Delhi” is neither a poetic nor prose masterpiece but a forewarning of changing times. Early Urdu ghazals focused on themes of love, separation, and heartbreak. However, political, economic, and social turmoil shifted this focus towards despair, failure, and loss. Over 150 years, the ghazal reflected the pain and hopelessness of Delhi’s streets, capturing the cries of longing and despair. Poets like Mir and Ghalib symbolized this era’s intense emotions, mourning the city’s decline as deeply as personal heartbreak.
