Abstract

This paper offers a concise linguistic study of negation prefixes in Urdu, analyzing their morphology, origins, and semantic roles. It focuses on common negative prefixes like a-, an-, ni-, nā-, be-, lā-, and ghair-, tracing their roots to Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, and Prakrit. The study also examines independent negative particles like nahi, na, mat, and hāshā in syntactic and pragmatic contexts.
